Homeless & Foster Care Supports
Homeless & Foster Care
The Cape Flattery School District is committed to serving all our students, including those in Foster Care or experiencing Homelessness. Students in Foster Care or experiencing homelessness are eligible for additional supports through the school and protected from discrimination. See below for qualifying information, documents, and potential supports.
Homeless Students
The district will work with homeless students and their families to help provide stability in school attendance and other services. Board Policy 3115 helps explain the Homeless Student's enrollment rights and services. Homelessness includes the following circumstances:
- Living in a Shelter
- Living in a Motel/Hotel
- Doubled up – living with another person due to economic hardship or loss of housing
- Unsheltered – living in a car, abandoned building, campsite, or other location
- Unaccompanied Youth – Child or Youth not living with their parent or guardian

Students in Foster Care
Students in foster care and the families who welcome them to their homes are supported by Board Policy 3116. Any student who has been placed with a person or family other than their parents by the Washington Department Children Youth and Families (DCYF), Makah Family Services, or other Tribal Family Services.
If you or your child is in Foster Care, please let your school counselor know. DCYF is supposed to notify the school of the placement through the DCYF School Notification Form, however sometimes that notification can be delayed. The sooner we know about a Foster Care placement, the sooner we can get supports in place.

- Waive school-related fees
