504 Plans
What is a 504?
A 504 is a legally binding agreement between our school district, you and your child to support your child with a recognized disability. A medical diagnosis is the most common way of documenting a recognized disability, but it is not required for a 504.
Our school counselors are the primary point of contact for students with 504s. If your child has a recognized disability, and you believe it is impacting her/his academics please contact the school’s counselor.
A 504 may include accommodations, modifications and differentiation. 504s do not include services requiringing additional staff like paraeducators or Speech Language services. Accommodations, modifications and differentiation may include:
- Extended time to complete assignments
- Ability to use text-to-speech and Speech-to-text
- Modified or shortened assignments
- Ability to check in with counselor as needed
- Use of a fidget during class
- The accommodations will be specific to your child’s needs.
